Default Re: AsereBLN Booter - Based on Chameleon RC4 / PCEFI10.5

Tried v. 1.1.8, no go on my system.
Something gets corrupted with the booter, system hangs every single boot and even reverting to Chameleon 2 RC4 didn't solve the problem. I was only able to boot in safe mode with an old Boot 132 cd. Reformatting the EFI partition and reinstalling old copies of kexts, plists and DSDT did the job.
Spent the whole weekend getting the system up again.

My console logs started filling up with this error:

CorruptedFiles folders started to appear on os drive.
Even Windows XP (different disk) complained about a corrupted file on startup.

With little time for deep investigation I've some ideas about the causes of incompatibility:

- realtekR1000.kext (unlikely)
-restart fix (System restarted well without any fix before, started to have random shutdown issues with asere's v. 1.1.7)
- VGA with dual monitor attached (more likely): Dev-id injection is made by DSDT and not EFI string in boot.plist. The booter hung normally short before GUI (and no messages in the logs), shutting down with 2 monitors attached and restarting with just one on seemed to "confuse" the process.

The strange thing I've noticed before: problems started only after complete shutdowns. Just "restarting" the system seemed not harming it in any way.

So maybe Danica Talos suggestions that the booter is affecting the bios or leaving traces on the diskthat harms the boot process is a possibility, especially on 10.5 systems.

BTW, had to reset BIOS with "fail safe defaults" to get it back to work.

And before this system had any issues (even sleep was working).

Hope it helps.

Have a nice day.

Default Re: AsereBLN Booter - Based on Chameleon RC4 / PCEFI10.5

@downlord & @Danica Talos.

I have 2 Systems: a MSI-P55M-GD45 + i7 860 and my old GA-EP45-DS3 + Q9550. The i7 runs 10.6.2 and the other system 10.6.x + 10.5.8. All three installations (i7 & 10.6.2 @ 32&64Bit, Q9550 & 10.5.8 & 10.6.2) are booting and running fine without any issues.

Right now I've testet the Q9550 + 10.5.8 a lot. I did some restarts, shutdowns, sleep/wakeups. It always boots up fine. I've made a filesystem check under OS X. Filesystem is OK, so I have no corrupted files. At least for me it does work as expected. My 10.5.8 installation is nothing special. I started with this HD on a Mac mini with 10.5.0, switched to Efix and then to Chameleon. Always made all OS updates as they came available.

Keep in mind that BIOS settings, the Booter, the com.apple.Boot.plist, the smbios.plist, the extra kernel extensions and last but not least the DSDT itself... all these stuff plays together to give you stable and running system. Without knowing about all these components, it's hard to say something reliable.

You can see my BIOS settings in my blog. It use my Booter v1.1.8. The only extra kernel extensions I'm using are: fakesmc.kext/IONetworking.kext and fakesmc.kect/LegacyHDA.kext. Find the content of my Booter USB-stick below.

updated on the day it came out. not a single issue with this one. my system is running stable as a rock as id did with all other releases. thank you, asere.
p.s. now i figured out why i wasn't having the font kerning issue with 1.1.7: i was using boot without a theme built-in.

I've made it to have vanilla Apple CPU Powermanagement (aka Speedstep) working. The original Gigabyte SSDT does not work together with OS X, so I had to modify it. It's now part of the DSDT and therefore I use DropSSDT=yes.

In contrast, the SSDT of the MSI P55M-GD45 does work under OS X.

Check the PCI Root UID. The Booter uses/determines one and this must match with the UID used in the DSDT.

Can it be relatet to my two video cards? I was using Netkas PCEFI 10.5 which supports multiple Ati 4800s.
Thanks!

EDIT: It is not about the two videocards. KP happens also with only one videocard.
UPDATE: my debug pix as far you need them...
Hi,

this is strange! I can boot 10.6.2 in 32Bit and 64Bit without problems. What does KP? Can you try to boot in verbose mode (and use Wait=Yes) to see what Chameleon says.

No, you don't need to update it every time. Only if you are still using the pre Chameleon RC4 ones. I've made only one change to the Chameleon RC4 boot0 & boot1h, I've disabled verbosity.

Hi Asere,

thanks for replying.
The strange thing I've noticed that the 1.1.7 Booter had some influence also on my XP installation (a damaged file was reported during boot every time i was using your chameleon version).
OSX was completely unbootable, had to reformat EFI partitions and reinstall boot0 boot1h ... So a complete no-go for me.

Chameleon RC4 is back working 100%.

I suspect some conflict with the graphic card, mine is being injected via DSDT, in the next days I will prepare a new version for my system without
this patch and give your 1.1.8 version another try.

FYI, boot.plist was kept to minimum, tried with and without smbios.plist (MacPro3,1), kext on E/E: jmicronATA, VoodoopowerMini, fakesmc, legacyHDA. All the rest pure vanilla.

Bye
